Fairfield Hosts MAAC Men's And Women's Rowing Championship

EDISON, NJ - The 2001 MAAC Men's and Women's Rowing Championship will be hosted by Fairfield University at the Enterprise Yacht Sales Marina, on the Housatonic River, in Shelton, CT Sunday, April 29. Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, Loyola College, Manhattan College, and Marist College will be participating in this year's championship.

The Fairfield University women's team will be looking to repeat as MAAC Champions after winning last year's title with a total 68 points. The championship was still in doubt entering the last race but the Stags captured the title by finishing second in the Novice 4+ while Loyola finished fourth. The point differential allowed Fairfield to pass Loyola in the standings. Loyola finished second with 67 points followed by Marist with 46 points, Canisius placed fourth with 13 points, Iona was fifth with four points, and Manhattan had two points.

The Loyola University men's team will look to defend its MAAC Championship after capturing last year's title with 92 points. Loyola was tied with Marist entering the last race, the Novice 4+, but Loyola finished second while Marist finished fourth. Loyola finished first in the Lightweight 4+ and the Varsity A 4+. The Red Foxes were runner-up with 78 points followed by Manhattan with 36.5 points, Iona was fourth with 19 points, Canisius placed fifth with 12 points, and Fairfield had one point. The races will begin at 9:30 am with the Men's Novice Lightweight 4+.
