Fairfield Women's Lacrosse Rolls over Manhattan Advance to Finals

Fairfield, Conn. -- The Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse team allowed the first goal of the game but came back to score the next 14 on their way to a 16-4 win over Manhattan Saturday on University field. The win advances the Stags to the final round of the MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship.

Elizabeth Tiffany (Blauvelt, N.Y.) scored for Manhattan at 28:11 of the first half to give the Jaspers a 1-0 lead. Each team traded possessions for the next four minutes, until 24:11 when Jessica Conahan (Milton, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal to spark a 14-0 run which stretched until the 5:38 mark of the second half.

Fairfield senior Colleen Cunningham (New Canaan, Conn.) led all scorers with four goals and two assists. The effort ties a school record for career goals (98) and leaves her two points shy of the career point mark (151). Six other Stags recorded multiple points in the game: Megan Uhr (2-1-3), Megan Main (3-1-4), Jessica Conahan (2-0-2), Lauren Uhr (2-0-2), Lauren Green (1-1-2), and Shannon Moran (1-1-2).

Tiffany led the Jaspers in scoring with two goals. Rory Maguire and Amy Kirkby each had a goal and an assist, while Kerry Carlsen had an assist.

Kathleen Crane was impressive in goal, making 14 saves and holding the Manhattan to just four goals. Megan Cosgrove made 11 saves for the Jaspers and suffered the loss.

The Stags, now 9-7 overall and 7-0 in the MAAC, will face the winner of Saturday's Niagara vs. Manhattan game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at University Field.
