COLUMBIA, SC (AP) -- Valerie King scored 13 points in overtime as sixth-seeded Cincinnati beat Saint Peter's, 76-63, in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
King didn't score in the first half, but took over in the extra period. She converted two three-point plays, and her 3-pointer with 1:21 left put the Bearcats up 70-63. She finished with 24 points for Cincinnati (27-4), which has won 14-straight.
Saint Peter's (25-6), the 11th seed, is 0-7 in the NCAA tournament. Felicia Harris led the Peahens with 17 points and seven rebounds. They were in position to win their first tournament game, leading 58-53 with 2:39 left in regulation, but Debbie Merrill made two key baskets, and Harris got a steal to put Cincinnati within 58-57.
Lindsey Gonzalez went to the line for Saint Peter's with 30.9 seconds but missed her second attempt of a one-and-one.
The Bearcats' K.B. Sharp found a lane, and her driving layup with 4.6 seconds left sent the game into overtime.
King struggled with her shooting most of the game and finished 2-for-12 from 3-point range. Sharp had 19 points, and Merrill added 16 and 12 rebounds for the Bearcats.
