Sophomore, 2B, 5-4, Middletown, NJ/Red Bank Catholic
DeLuca picked up where she left off last year, beginning the 2002 season with a .441 batting average while tallying eight runs and seven RBI. Her solo homer in the fourth inning tied the Providence game, 1-1, and the Peahens went on to claim a 4-2 victory over the Friars. DeLuca also hit a two-run home run in the first game against Rider in the Patriot Invitational.

VERONICA MAHER, CANISIUS
Senior, 5-10, Warsaw, NY/Warsaw
Maher is off to a strong start this season, already posting a 4-1 record on the mound. After allowing three earned runs against Temple, Maher has tossed 27 innings without allowing an earned run, lowering her ERA to 0.64. She has allowed only 24 hits in six appearances with 20 strikeouts and four walks, holding her opponents to a .198 average at the plate.

ALISON HIGGS, IONA
Freshman, OF/P, 5-7, Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown
Higgs led the Gaels offensively at the James Madison Invitational last week. She served as the leadoff hitter for all six games and registered a .450 batting average and a team-high 56 percent on-base percentage. She currently leads her squad in hits (9) and doubles (3) as the Gaels advanced to the finals of the tournament. Higgs also tossed a two-hitter against St. Francis (PA) in Iona?™s 8-1 win in the semifinals
