Two Fairfield Players Highlight Softball Players of the Week

MAAC Player of the Week

ELLEN SAROSY, FAIRFIELD
Junior, OF, 5-9, Howard Beach, NY/Mary Louis Academy

Sarosy batted .524 for the week (11-of-21), reaching base in 13 of 24 plate appearances for Fairfield this past week. She extended her hitting streak to 11 games by stroking a hit in each of the last six games. The lead-off hitter stole five bases without being caught while tallying six runs scored and three RBI for the Stags.

MAAC Pitcher of the Week

MELLISSA SANTOS, FAIRFIELD
Junior, 6-1, Pepperell, MA/N. Middlesex Regional

Santos fanned 53 batters in 36 innings of work last week, including 10 or more in four of her five starts for the Stags , and and posted a 1.94 ERA. She tossed a one-hitter while striking out 15 in Fairfield?™s 5-3 win over Stony Brook. Santos went 2-1 in MAAC play this past week, striking out 26 batters in 21 innings with a 2.30 ERA.

MAAC Rookie of the Week

LIZ HAMMEL, IONA
Freshman, 2B, 5-10, Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson

Hammel led the Gaels this past week with her .318 batting average and three RBI. In MAAC games, she was 5-for-11 (.455 BA) with four runs scored and two RBI. Her two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the game winner in Iona?™s 6-5 victory over Saint Peter?™s.
