The Walt Disney World Golf complex in Orlando, Florida will be the site of the April 26-28th Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Golf Championships. The winners of both the men?™s and women?™s divisions of this event will receive the Charles ?Scott? McLeod Award, which remembers an avid golfer from Pelham NY and graduate of MAAC member Iona College.
The 2002 season will be the 17th time the McLeod Award will be presented to the winners of the collegiate MAAC golf competition. Each champion will be presented a silver McLeod Award Tray prepared by Pelham?™s JJ Mele. The permanent McLeod Award Tray will be engraved with each of the winners?™ names and will spend time during the upcoming year at the universities of both award winners. MAAC member schools are Canisius, Fairfield, Iona, Loyola (MD), Niagara, Manhattan, Marist, Rider, Sienna, and St. Peter?™s.
The Charles ?Scott? McLeod Award is presented in memory of a graduate of Pelham Memorial High School ?™75 and Iona College ?™80, who passed away in 1985. Scott McLeod was an enthusiastic golfer, a member of the Pelham Country Club, and a sponsor of the MAAC Golf Championship when the event was held in Pelham during the mid-1980s. In addition to presenting the annual award, the McLeod Award Association supports interest in collegiate golf, highlights the history of golf in Pelham, and raises funds through a summer golf outing for a variety of children?™s and Pelham charities.
The McLeod Award committee mourns the loss in the past year of three friends from Pelham who were great gentlemen and avid golfers: Richard Amen, Jack Rennau, and most recently Monsignor Vincent Jeffers.
