Lawrenceville, NJ - The Manhattan College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams took home the 2002 MAAC Track & Field title on Sunday. The men's team finished with 253.5 points, 42.5 points ahead of second-place Rider (211), followed by Iona (118), Marist (87), Canisius (46), and Saint Peter's (34.5). The women's team finished with 301 points, 67.5 points ahead of second-place Rider (233.5), followed by Marist (111.5), Canisius (49), Iona (36) and Saint Peter's (21).
Five individuals placed first in multiple events, all from Manhattan. On the men's team, Curt Forsythe placed first in both the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Jan Augustynowicz took home the crown in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. On the women's side, Kristen Cerasi took home the crown in the 3,000 meter and 1,500 meter run, while teammate Karin Larsson placed first in both the Discus and Shot put, and Lauren Primerano swept both the Javelin and Hammer throw.
Other first-place finishers for the men during the second day of competition included Rider's Sean Rodgers in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.93 seconds, Marist's Chris McCloskey in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.86, Manhattan's Matt Spring in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:50.99, and Iona's Graeme Reid in the 5,000 meter run. with a time of 14:51.58. Rider's Brandon Hicks took home the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.82 seconds, while teammate Gio Ramos placed first in the 400 meter hurdles. In the men's relay, Rider swept both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.
In the field events, Manhattan's Daks Armstrong placed first in the high jump with a leap of 1.9 meters, while teammate Nils Petterson won the pault vault competition with a vault of 3.65 meters. Iona's John Leone placed first in the shot put with a toss of 15.27 meters, while Manhattan's Jean Afflack took home the discus crown with a throw of 43.32 meters and fellow teammate Thomas Freeman took home the crown in the hammer throw with a toss of 64.1 meters. Marist's Michael Curran won the javelin crown with a throw of 57.41 meters.
Other first-place finishers for the women's side included Manhattan's Samantha Griffin in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.4 seconds, while teammate Stefani Allen took home the crown in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.82 seconds. Marist's Susan Golden took home first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:16.65, while teammates Jenn Rosenblatt finished first in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:10.37 and Liza Grudzinksi in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 38:47.09. Manhattan's Jana Cagin took home the crown in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.31 seconds, while Marist's Yesan Vaughan won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.09. Manhattan took home the 4 x 100 meter relay with a time of 48.68 seconds, while Rider claimed the 4 x 400 meter relay crown with a time of 4:00.15
In the field events, Manhattan's Michele Daly won the high jump with a leap of 1.58 meters, while teammates Jana Cagin claimed the long jump with a jump of 5.2 meters and Michanne Campbell placed first in the triple jump with a score of 11.43 meters. Rider's Jen Riley won the pole vault with a vault of 3.19 meters.
