Princeton, NJ ?“ Freshman Lindsey Biles scored four goals and assisted on another to lead No. 2 seeded Princeton to a 25-3 victory over Le Moyne College in the opening round of the NCAA Division I Women?™s Lacrosse Championship.
The Tigers (16-1) pushed their winning streak to 16 consecutive games, while Le Moyne ended its season at 10-8. The Dolphins earned their first-ever trip to the NCAA tournament as the champion of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
?They have my vote to go all the way,? Le Moyne College head coach Patty Kloidt said of the Tigers. ?It was a great opportunity to play against them. It was unexpected that we would make it this far and to play on this campus against this team capped off a wonderful season.?
Junior Amanda Daniels scored Le Moyne?™s first goal with 13 minutes and 15 seconds remaining in the opening half. Daniels streaked into an open space in front of the Princeton net and fired it past goalkeeper Sarah Kolodner for the first NCAA tournament goal in program. Daniels?™ goal stopped a 11-0 Princeton run to open the game.
Daniels netted her second goal of the game with nine minutes and 31 seconds remaining in the second half. She picked up a ground ball near midfield and streaked into the offensive zone where she bounced in her second goal of the game. Daniels, Le Moyne?™s top goal-scorer in program history, scored for the 49th time this season and 131st time in her three-year career.
Senior co-captain Alison Simonelli tallied Le Moyne?™s third goal with three minutes and 36 seconds remaining in the contest. Simonelli completes her collegiate career second on the program?™s career points list with 163. The goal marked the 100th of her career.
?This experience was beyond any of our expectations,? Simonelli said. ?I hope we just played the eventual national champions. That would be pretty cool."
