Five MAAC Menb(TM)s Basketball Players Named to the NABC All-District Teams

Overland Park, KS ?“ Five MAAC men?™s basketball players were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division I All-District Teams, recognizing the country?™s best men?™s collegiate basketball student-athletes.

Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across the country. The 150 student-athletes, from 15 districts, are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Team to be announced at the conclusion of the 2002-03 NCAA men?™s basketball season.

Manhattan junior guard Luis Flores was named to the First Team District 2. Flores is currently ranked fifth in the nation in scoring, averaging 25.0 points per game for the Jaspers. He is also tied for ninth place in the country in free throw percentage, connecting on 90.9 percent of his shots from the line. Joining Flores on the First Team are Carmelo Anthony from Syracuse, Marcus Hatten from St. John?™s, Marquez Green from St. Bonaventure and Jermaine Hall from Wagner.

The District 2 Second Team includes Prosper Karangwa from Siena and Brian Dux from Canisius. Rounding out the squad is Hakim Warrick and Gerry McNamara from Syracuse, and Anthony Glover from St. John?™s.

Karangwa is tied for seventh place in the league in scoring, posting 16.8 points per game for Siena, while pulling down 6.6 rebounds a night (tied for ninth in the MAAC). He is also third in the MAAC in assists, dishing out 4.9 an outing during his senior campaign.

Dux is registering 15.1 points and 5.4 assists per game for Canisius, placing him ninth and second in the conference in those respective categories. He is also eighth in the nation in free throw percentage, hitting 91 percent of his shots from the charity stripe.

Deng Gai from Fairfield was named to the District 1 Second Team, along with Ryan Gomez from Providence, Earl Hunt from Brown, Tim Szatko from Holy Cross and Tim Harvey from Harvard. Gai is ranked fourth in the country in blocked shots, averaging 4.0 per game. He is also registering 13.1 points and 6.6 caroms a night for the Stags.

Saint Peter?™s Keydren Clark was named to the District 3 Second Team, along with St. Joseph?™s Delonte West, Pittsburgh?™s Julius Page, Drexel?™s Robert Battle and Villanova?™s Ricky Wright. Clark is now seventh in the nation in scoring and the top freshman in that category, averaging 24.5 points per game for the Peacocks. His season point total is now 563, which is the ninth-highest total in school history.
