Lawrenceville, NJ -- The Manhattan College men's and women's track and field teams won their seventh consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship titles with a score of 272.0 and 298.0 points respectively. Rider took second in both divisions with scores of 230.0 and 236.0 respectively.
Five meet records fell today at Rider University. Manhattan's Karin Larsson (Garphyttan, Sweden) set a meet record in the women's shot put with a distance of 13.36 meters, eclipsing the old record of 13.08 set in 1999. Rider's Jen Riley (Holland, PA) beat her own record of 3.19 meters with a mark of 3.23 meters in women's pole vault. Also Jamaal Harris (Beverly, NJ) of Rider University knocked off last years record of 10.93 in the men's 100 meter's with a new time of 10.87. Both Richard Kiplagat (Marakwet, Kenya) and Peter Riley (Lancashire, England) of Iona set new records today. Kiplagat's time of 1:50.01 in the 800 meter beat the previous one of 1:51.92. Riley's record was in the men's 5000 meter with a mark of 14:23.20, shattering the old time of 14:50.46.
Manhattan College's Dan Mecca won the MAAC Coach of the Year for both the men's and women's teams. The recipients of the MAAC Women's Most Outstanding Performers were Marist's Liza Grudzinski (Branford, CT) for the track events and Manhattan's Karin Larsson (Garphyttan, Sweden) for the field events. Manhattan's Rajne Svensson (Karlstad, Sweden) won the field award for the MAAC Men's Most Outstanding Performers. While, Peter Riley (Lancashire, England) earned the MAAC Most Outstanding Performers on the track side.
