Greyhounds Earn Automatic Bid to the NCAA TournamentFairfield, CT -- Loyola College earned its fifth consecutive MAAC title with a 2-0 victory over Rider University in the championship game of the 2004 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship on the campus of Fairfield University.
Courtney Arikian started things off for the Greyhounds, netting a shot off a pass from Tyhira Glenn with 18:32 left in the game. Loyola then took a 2-0 lead as Ali Andrzejewski scored on a rebound from five yards out on the right side off a initial shot by Glenn at the 17:26 mark.
Loyola goalkeeper Kate Gilfillan recorded no saves in the win for the Greyhounds. Rider's Kim Carter and Hannah Harris combined for seven saves between the pipes for the Broncs.
Lindsay Tracey was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, joining teammates Andrzejewski, Arikian, Gilfillan, Lisa Jaffa and Carolyn Kennington on the All-Tournament Team. Rider was represented by Leah Craig, Andrea Giuliani and Tami Coyle on the squad. Iona's Leanne Sudol and Siena's Corry Silon rounded out the members of the All-Tournament Team.
Loyola has earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship. The first round will begin on Friday, November 12.
