?˜Hounds finish most successful season in school history with a 16-3-0 record

State College, PA -- The Loyola College women?™s soccer team saw its season come to a close Friday evening with a 3-0 loss to Maryland in the opening round of the NCAA Division I Women's College Cup. The Greyhounds finished the most successful season in school history with a 16-3-0 record.

The Terps advance to the second round to face the winner of the No. 2 Penn State/Binghamton game Sunday.

Maryland?™s leading scorer Mallory Mahar started scoring at 8:18 when she took a shot from inside the box and beat Loyola keeper Kate Gilfillan to the left side. The squads kept the score 1-0 at halftime.

The Greyhounds had a chance to tie things up in the second half when Ali Andrzejewski rebounded Tyhira Glenn?™s initial shot in front of the goal but was unable to come up with the score. In the 53rd minute, Maryland?™s Kelly Rozumalski took at shot in the 53rd minute from 25 feet out that sailed into the goal for the 2-0 lead. Simon Decker tallied the final goal at 67:01. Both Decker and Rozumalski?™s goals were assisted by Mahar.

The Greyhounds had a few chances to score in front of the goal in the closing minutes of play but were unable to capitalize on them.

The Terps outshot the Greyhounds, 19-8. Gilfillan stopped five shots in goal for Loyola, while Maryland?™s Nikki Resnick stopped Loyola?™s three shots on goal.

Loyola ends the season after setting school records in wins (16), consecutive victories (13), unbeaten streak (13), points (160) and goals (59).
