Three MAAC Schools Announce Final Non-Conference Opponents

EDISON, NJ ?“ Fairfield University, Manhattan College and Niagara University have announced their final men?™s basketball non-conference opponents to play on Saturday, February 19. Fairfield will host California State University Northridge, Manhattan will travel to George Mason University, and Niagara will visit the University of Akron.

The three games are non-conference games that have come from the pool of teams under consideration for the BracketBuster Saturday package of games.

?We are pleased with the quality of opponents that have been selected to play the participating MAAC schools,? Richard J. Ensor, Commissioner of the MAAC, said. ?These are quality basketball programs that will lead to great games on February 19.?

This will be the first meeting for Fairfield and Cal State Northridge. The Stags are led by senior forward center Deng Gai, who leads the nation in blocks with 5.6 stops per game while averaging 14.6 points and 8.4 boards an outing. Junior guard Terrence Todd is the Stags?™ leading scorer with 15.1 points per game. The Matadors are led by senior guard forward Ian Boylan (14.3 ppg) and senior guard Davin White (12.5 ppg).

It will also be the first meeting between Manhattan and George Mason. The Jaspers are led by senior forward Peter Mulligan, who is contributing 21.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, and freshman guard/forward CJ Anderson, who is registering 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds an outing. The Colonials are led by junior guard Lamar Butler (16.4 ppg) and junior forward/center Jai Lewis (13.7 ppg, 8.1 rpg).

Niagara holds a 3-2 advantage in the all-times series with Akron that dates back to the 1940-41 season. The last match-up was on December 14, 2002, with the Purple Eagles earning a 77-71 victory over the Zips at the Gallagher Center. Senior forward Juan Mendez is averaging 23.6 points and league-best 10.4 rebounds per game for Niagara, while senior guard David Brooks is recording 15.7 points a night for the Purple Eagles. The Zips are led by junior forward Darryl Peterson (15.6 ppg) and sophomore forward Romeo Travis (10.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg).
