Loyola Men, Siena Women Win 2005 JetBlue Airways MAAC Golf Championships

Lake Buena Vista, FL ?“ The men of Loyola College won their ninth league title, while the women of Siena College captured their fifth crown at the 2005 JetBlue Airways MAAC Golf Championships at the Magnolia Golf Course in Walt Disney World.

The Loyola men scored 294 in the final round, giving the Greyhounds a three-day total of 877. Siena finished at second place with a score of 883, while Rider placed third with a score of 913. Niagara placed fourth (916), Iona placed fifth (930), Fairfield placed sixth (933), Canisius placed seventh (942), Manhattan placed eighth (1003) and Saint Peter?™s placed eighth (1041).

Siena?™s women shot 338 in the final round of their 54-hole tournament giving the Saints a two-day total of 997. Fairfield finished round three with 340 points and a three-day total of 1018.

Siena?™s Bryan Bigley and Melissa Agostinelli claimed the 2005 Men?™s & Women?™s McLeod award, which is presented to the MAAC individual champion. The award is named after Charles ?Scott? McLeod, a 1980 graduate of Iona College, who passed away in 1985 after a life-long fight with kidney-related ailments. McLeod was also a lifetime member of the Pelham Country Club, where the MAAC Tournament was held in the middle 1980?™s, and was a sponsor of the tournament the first year it was held at Pelhelm.

Bigley shot just one over par for a score of 73 in the final round and had a three-day total of 211, while Agostinelli shot 85 in her final round for a three-day total of 241.

This is the Greyhounds third consecutive JetBlue Airways MAAC Golf Title and the teams ninth overall. The Greyhounds also won titles in 1990, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2003 and 2004.

During this year?™s championships, the 11-year individual three-day record of 217 was broken by Loyola?™s David Atkinson and T.J. Shuart as well as Siena?™s Allen Parker, each with a cumulative score of 216. A new MAAC record of 211 was set by Siena College?™s Bryan Bigley.

Tom Wronowski, head golf coach at Siena College was named the 2005 MAAC Men?™s Golf Coach of the Year.
