Manhattan Men's Tennis Plays UCLA in First Round of NCAA Tournament

Flushing, NY -- The Manhattan College men's tennis team will be traveling to Los Angeles, CA to take on the #7 seed UCLA in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship on Saturday, May 14 at 3:00 p.m. EST.

Manhattan earned its second consecutive NCAA appearance after beating Marist for the second straight year at the MAAC Championship Tournament, 4-0. Last year the Jaspers beat the Red Foxes in the final round of the Championship, 4-1, claiming their first ever MAAC Championship Title. This year sophomore Zoltan Bus was named the MAAC Most Outstanding Performer for the second consecutive year. The Jaspers posted a 16-4 overall record and a perfect 7-0 MAAC record.

UCLA enters the tournament as the #7 seed after earning an overall record of 21-3 and the Pacific-10 Conference Championship Title. Sophomore Benjamin Kohlloeffel leads the Bruins. He is currently ranked 11th in ITA Rankings. Kohlloeffel holds a 36-7 overall singles record and a 22-8 doubles record.

Prior to the Manhattan/UCLA match, San Diego State (17-5) and Cal (11-9) will do battle at noon EST. Saturday's winners will meet on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. EST, with the winner advancing to the round of 16 in College Station, Texas, May 21-24.
