Manhattan College Takes Menb(TM)s & Womenb(TM)s Outdoor Track Titles

Lawrenceville, NJ ?“ The men of Manhattan College claimed their ninth consecutive Outdoor Track & Field title, while their women?™s team won their eighth title in nine years today at the 2006 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Rider University.

Manhattan?™s Milan Jotanovic claimed men?™s Most Outstanding Performer honors for the field events, claiming first place in the shot put and establishing a new conference mark in the event. Darnell Douglas of Manhattan was named Most Outstanding Performer for track events as he finished first in the men?™s 200 & 400 meter dashes.

For the women, Manhattan?™s Tina Magi and Jessica Jansson were named Co-Most Outstanding Performers for Field Events. Magi claimed first place in the high jump and triple jump while taking second place in the long jump. Jansson scored in eight events, winning the 400 meter hurdles. Rider?™s Carla Wynter was named Most Outstanding Performer for track events after winning the 200 & 400 meter dashes and ran the third leg of the 4 x 400 meter relay.

Manhattan finished the championship with a team total of 220 points, just 11 points of Rider University?™s 209. Iona finished in third place with 84 points, followed by Marist (59) and Saint Peter?™s (42).

For the women, Manhattan?™s 284 points topped all scores, followed by second place Rider with 258. Marist finished in third place with 86 points, followed by Iona (72), Loyola (49) and Saint Peter?™s (17).

On the men?™s side three records fell today starting with Manhattan?™s Milan Jotanovic?™s 19.30 meter heave in the weight throw. Jotanovic owned the previous meet record of 18.84 set at last year?™s meet. Iona?™s Richard Kiplagat finished the 1500 meter run in 3:43.60 to beat the old record of 3:48.22 set by Kiplagat in 2004. In the 4 x 400 meter relay, Rider ran a time of 3:17.04 to beat the old mark of 3:18.22 set by Manhattan in 1999.

The women were also breaking records today as Rider?™s Jazmine Fenlator won the women?™s shot put with a toss of 14.11 meters to eclipse the two year old mark of 13.77 meters set by Karin Larsson. Jenna Daly tied her conference record of 3.50 meters in the pole vault. Daly originally claimed the record in 2004.

Manhattan?™s Dan Mecca took home Anaconda Sports Coach of the Year honors in both men?™s & women?™s track & field.
