MAAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
GERALD BROWN, LOYOLA
Junior, Guard, 6-4, 195, Baltimore, Md./Frederick Douglass
Brown, a junior guard, averaged 27.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals for his first two games in a Loyola uniform, leading the Greyhounds to a 1-1 week. After establishing a career-high in the season opener against Navy with 24 points, he bettered that with 30 points in Loyola's win over North Florida. Brown also tied his career-bests in assists (5) and steals (5) in the victory. For the week, he shot 73.3 percent from the field (11-15) and 85.7 percent from the line (13-17).
MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
GREG NERO, FAIRFIELD
Freshman, Forward, 6-7, 215, Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook
Nero, a freshman forward, averaged 18.5 points and 6.0 rebounds over his first two games for the Stags. He led all Fairfield scorers in both games last week, including a 23-point performance in an overtime loss at Holy Cross. Nero's basket with 34 seconds left in the extra stanza tied the game at 65-65, before the Crusaders hit two free throws to win the game. He leads the team in field goal percentage and scoring after his first week at the collegiate level.
