Loyola to Take on Fairfield in Battle for Third Place

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - Top-seeded Manhattan College will face #7 Saint Peter's in the 2002 JetBlue MAAC Volleyball Championship game on Tuesday, November 19 at 5:00 p.m.

The Lady Jaspers advanced to the championship game with a 3-1 victory over Loyola in the semifinals (30-14, 28-30, 30-25, 30-14). Lauren Belcher registered a game-high 15 kills for Manhattan, and teammate Amy O'Dorisio tallied 13 kills and 14 digs. Bridgett Geddes recorded 39 assists for the Lady Jaspers. Loyola's Mary Hamsher paced the Greyhounds with 10 kills and 13 digs.

The Peahens earned a trip to the title game with a 3-1 win over Fairfield in the second semifinal match. Ludmila Kechina tallied 27 kills for Saint Peter's, while Tzvetomila Dotcheva had 22 kills. Alma Qose added 31 assists in the victory. Kristin Anderson posted 15 kills and 4.5 total blocks for Fairfield.

The winner of the Manhattan/Saint Peter's game will earn the league's automatic bid to the 2002 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.

In tomorrow's other matches, Loyola will take on Fairfield in the third place match at 1:30 p.m., and Canisius will play Iona for fifth place at 10:30 a.m.
