Manhattan Wins 2002 JetBlue MAAC Volleyball Championship

Lake Buena Vista, FL - Manhattan College completed its perfect run through the JetBlue Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 victory over Saint Peter's College (30-20, 30-20, 30-23).

The Lady Jaspers (30-2), the top seed, defeated seventh-seeded Peahens (9-21) to earn their first ever MAAC Volleyball title. With the win, Manhattan has gained the league's automatic bid to the 2002 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.

Junior Goedele Van Cauteren (Oetingen, Belgium) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player as she collected 16 kills, 15 assists and nine digs in the title contest against Saint Peter's. Senior Lauren Belcher (Huntington Beach, CA) tallied 12 kills for the Lady Jaspers, while senior Bridgett Geddes (Escondido, CA) posted a game-high 26 assists. Ludmila Kechina (Daugavplis, Latvia) led Saint Peter's with 13 kills.

Cauteren was joined on the All-Tournament Team by teammate Geddes. Kechina and Tzvetomila Dotcheva (Pleven, Bulgaria) was named to the team from Saint Peter's with Fairfield's Kristin Anderson (Randolph, NJ) and Loyola's Mary Hamsher (Mechanicsburg, PA) rounding out the team.
