MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Juan Gaviria Headlines 2006 All-MAAC Men's Soccer Team

EDISON, NJ - Saint Peter’s College junior forward Juan Gaviria has been selected as the 2006 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches and headlines this season’s All-MAAC First Team.
Gaviria earned this award after leading the MAAC in scoring during the regular season. He posted 14 goals and three assists for 31 points through 18 games for the Peacocks.
Joining Gaviria with First Team All-MAAC honors is Fairfield University’s Tom Skara, the 2006 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Skara, a junior defender for the Stags, earned this honor after helping his squad to an overall record of 12-5-1 and a 7-2 mark in the MAAC.
Canisius College’s Alan McGreal took the 2006 MAAC Rookie of the Year honors. The freshman forward recorded six goals and four assists this season for the Golden Griffins, placing him in a tie for fifth place on the MAAC scoring list.
Also earning first team selections along with Gaviria and Skara are Gamal Breedy, Damion Gaynor, Chris DeAbreu and Marco Orias from Saint Peter’s. Fairfield’s Sam Bailey and Jon Paul Francini, Loyola College’s Gabe Ortega, Rade Kokovic and Omar Alfonso, and Niagara University’s Matt Stedman round out the selections on the first team.
The second team All-MAAC consists of three student-athletes from Fairfield: Tom Clements, Mike Troy and Sam Bailey. They are joined by McGreal from Canisius, Phil Brierley, Tennant McVea and Justin Chelland from Loyola, Bruno Machado and Keith Detelj from Marist College, Billy Gustafson and Rafael Venturini from Niagara, Dan Riverso from Rider University, Murphy Wiredu from Saint Peter’s and Liam Welsh from Siena College.
Headlining the All-Rookie Team with McGreal are Sean Vella from Canisius, David Predrahita and Christian Uy from Fairfield, Mike McTigue, McVea and Jamie Darvill from Loyola, Jamison Allegra from Marist, John Fiutowski from Niagara, and Assaf Sheleg and Udi Naim from Saint Peter’s.
Niagara head coach Dermot McGrane was named the 2006 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year. He has led the Purple Eagles to an overall record of 7-6-4, including a 5-1-3 mark in the MAAC, and the school’s second straight appearance in the MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship.
