Siena Men and Women Capture 2006 JetBlue Airways MAAC Golf Championships

Lake Buena Vista, FL ? The Siena College men’s team won their 11th league title, while the Siena College women’s team captured its sixth conference crown in the 2006 JetBlue Airways MAAC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships at the Magnolia Golf Course in Walt Disney World.
Siena men, who entered the day with a 15-stroke lead, shot a final-round 296 to finish with a three-day total of 908. Loyola College finished in second place with a final score of 923, while Iona took third place (925). Rider University (927) placed fourth, followed by Niagara University (938), Canisius College (952), Fairfield University (965), Manhattan College (974) and Saint Peter’s College (1025).
Kyle Underwood of Iona followed up his first rounds of 72 and 72 with a 71 this afternoon to finish with a tournament total of 215 to win the McLeod Award, presented to the MAAC individual champion. The award is named after Charles “Scott” McLeod, a 1980 graduate of Iona College, who passed away in 1985 after a life-long fight with kidney-related ailments. McLeod was also a lifetime member of the Pelham Country Club, where the MAAC Tournament was held in the middle 1980’s, and was a sponsor of the tournament the first year it was held at Pelham.
Bryan Bigley of Siena finished second with 219 and Michael Mulieri of Loyola finished third at 220. Tyler Brewington of Rider came in fourth with a 222 and Allen Parker of Siena scored a 225 to round out the top five men’s finishers.
Rider head coach Chet Dalgewicz was named the 2006 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year.
The Siena women’s team claimed its sixth MAAC Women’s Championship with a final score of 972. Bridget Erwin of Siena won the McLeod Award on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff this afternoon with a three-day total of 239. Siena’s Melissa Agostinelli (239) and Laura Woolgar (242) finished second and third, respectively.
