Marist's Fitz Selected As Preseason Player of the Year

EDISON, N.J. ? Marist College sophomore Rachele Fitz has been selected by the MAAC’s 10 head coaches as the Women’s Basketball Preseason Player of the Year.

 

Last season, Fitz, an integral part of the Red Foxes Sweet Sixteen run, earned MAAC Rookie of the Year honors and was also chosen to the All-MAAC second team.  She finished fifth in the league in scoring (14.9 ppg), ninth in rebounding (6.2 rpg), first in field goal percentage (.569), and sixth in free throw percentage (.813).

 

Joining Fitz on the Preseason All-MAAC first team are teammate Meg Dahlman, Fairfield University’s Sabra Wrice, Siena College’s Laura Menty, and Iona College’s Tiara Headen.

 

Dahlman finished in the top ten in scoring (11.9 ppg), rebounding (6.1 rpg), field goal percentage (.534), and blocks (1.34 bpg).  Her performance earned her All-MAAC second team honors.

 

Wrice, a senior guard, finished second in the MAAC in scoring last season, averaging 15.7 points per game.  She was tied for sixth in the league in steals with 1.73 per game and hit 38 three-pointers (1.27 per game).  Wrice was an All-MAAC first team selection in 2006-07.

 

Menty, a senior forward for the Saints, averaged 15.2 points per game last season, the third highest mark in the league.  She finished second behind Fitz in field goal percentage (.569) and pulled down 5.7 rebounds per game.  Menty was an All-MAAC first team choice a year ago.

 

Headen, a 5-9 senior guard, averaged 10.4 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game last year.  She was an All-MAAC second team selection.
