Iona Men Win Third Consecutive Northeast Regional

Edison, NJ ? The Iona College men’s cross country team placed five runners in the top 13 to edge out Providence College, 37-46 and claim its third consecutive Northeast Regional title on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts.

After Providence took the first two places, Iona’s Abraham Ng’etich (30:01.1), Harbert Okuti (30:04.5), and Andrew Ledwith (30:04.7) finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively to gain an advantage. Providence’s third runner came across in 10^th place, but the Gaels’ fourth and fifth runners finished before the Friars fourth to seal the victory.

On the women’s side, Iona’s McKayla Plank finished second overall with a time of 20:30.4. As a team, the Gaels placed 11^th with 255 points.

The Iona men’s team and Plank will compete at the 2007 NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana on November 19^th.
