NCAA College Cup: Loyola Given Home Game, Saint Peter's Receives At-Large Bid

Edison, NJ - The Loyola College Greyhounds, the 2007 MAAC Champions, were one of 16 teams chosen to host a first round match in the NCAA College Cup. MAAC runners-up Saint Peter's received an at-large bid and will travel to the University of Virginia.
The Greyhounds (18-3) earned the automatic bid from the MAAC Championship with a 1-0 decision over Saint Peter’s.
Loyola will host Liberty University on Saturday, November 24, in a 1:00 p.m. match on Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. The winner of the match will face the College Cup’s No. 13 seed, Maryland, on Wednesday, November 28, at 5:00 p.m. in College Park, Md.
Loyola last hosted a NCAA Tournament match in 1993 when the Greyhounds beat James Madison in the first round and lost to Virginia in the second.
Liberty (13-4-2) advanced to the College Cup for the first time in school history by virtue of winning its first Big South Conference Tournament title. The Flames, who entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed, defeated fourth-seeded Radford, 2-1, yesterday.
The Greyhounds were the preseason No. 2 pick in the MAAC, but a youthful squad finished its conference regular season with an 8-1 mark, and then did not allow a goal in the conference championships.
Saint Peter’s will travel to Charlottesville, Va. to take on the University of Virginia Cavaliers in the first round on Friday, November 23 at 5:00 p.m.
The Peacocks are the first team in Saint Peter’s history to receive an at-large bid to an NCAA Championship. The winner of this first round game will take on #15 West Virginia on November 28th in Morgantown.
This is the second time that Saint Peter’s will participate in the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship. They last made the field in 2003 after winning the MAAC Championship. The Peacocks defeated Brown, 2-0, in the first round and fell to Michigan, 6-2, in the second round.
