Menty, Fitz and Riddick Claim MAAC Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

LAURA MENTY, SIENA
Senior, Forward, 6-1, Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug
Menty delivered three memorable performances last week leading Siena to a 2-1 record. Menty averaged an impressive 24.7 points and 8.7 rebounds over these three contests. She shot a stunning 63.0% (29-46) from the field and 80.0% (16-20) from the free-throw line. On Monday, Menty posted a team-high 21 points and nine rebounds guiding Siena to a 57-47 victory at Long Island. She followed this solid outing with 25 points in an 83-74 upset over Big 12 powerhouse Colorado in the opening round of the 21st Annual Coors Classic in Boulder on Friday. Menty was 11-13 from the field in the Saints second consecutive road victory. Then on Saturday in the Coors Classic Championship, Menty picked up right where she left off tying a career-high with 28 points against Clemson. She also pulled down a season-high 14 rebounds. Menty set a tournament record with 22 field goals, and came up just three points shy of setting the two game scoring record (53 points). For her superb efforts, Menty was named to the All-Tournament Team.
RACHELE FITZ, MARIST
Sophomore, Forward, 6-0, Seven Hills, OH/Trinity
Fitz led Marist to a 3-0 record this week in the Oahu Classic, defeating Utah, Nebraska, and Eastern Washington. The sophomore started the week with a 26 point, 10 rebound effort against Utah. She followed that up with a career-high 28 points against Nebraska, pulling down 11 rebounds. Against Eastern Washington, Fitz finished the Oahu Classic with 16 points and seven boards against Eastern Washington. For the week, Fitz averaged 23.3 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game. She shot 52.4% from the field and was 26-26 at the free-throw line.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
CHARLENE RIDDICK, SAINT PETER’S
Freshman, Forward, 6-1, Waterbury, CT/Chase
Riddick led the Peahens to a 1-1 outing this week with a 72-57 loss to Delaware State and a 60-49 victory over New Hampshire. Riddick recorded 13 points with three rebounds against DSU and finished with seven points, three boards and two steals against the Bobcats to average 10 points per game this week.
