Field is Set for 2007 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship

Edison, N.J. - The 2007 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship begins Wednesday, November 14, at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.
The championship begins Wednesday at 11:00 a.m., when seventh-seeded Niagara University (5-10-2, 3-5-1 MAAC) takes on 10th-seeded Manhattan College (2-13-2, 0-7-2 MAAC). Eighth-seeded Rider University (7-9-2, 2-5-2 MAAC) opposes ninth-seeded Siena College (5-9-4, 2-5-2 MAAC) at 2:00 p.m.
Competition continues on Thursday, November 15 as Fairfield University (10-5-2, 5-3-1 MAAC), the third seed, will face #6 Marist College (6-7-4, 3-3-3 MAAC) at 11:00 a.m. The winner of the Niagara/Manhattan game takes on #2 Saint Peter’s College (13-4-1, 6-2-1 MAAC) at 11:15 a.m. Top-seeded Loyola College (15-3, 8-1 MAAC) will go up against the winner of the Rider/Siena game at 1:45 p.m. The final game of the day will start at 2:00 p.m., with fourth-seeded Canisius College (6-11, 5-4 MAAC) versus fifth-seeded Iona College (7-9-2, 4-3-2 MAAC).
The semifinals will take place on Saturday, November 17 at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 18 with the winner receiving the league’s automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship.
Last year, Fairfield defeated Saint Peter’s, 1-0, to capture its second MAAC Championship in school history. The Stags defeated Loyola, 3-0, in the semifinals, while Saint Peter’s earned a 3-0 victory over Niagara. Fairfield’s Alex Cunliffe was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship.
