MAAC Basketball Heats Up Around the Holidays

? MAAC Basketball returns in full force this weekend after a lull in the
schedule for final exams.
On Friday night, Rider (7-4)
will make the short trip to Piscataway,
NJ to tip-off against the Rutgers
Scarlet Knights (7-4) at 7:30 p.m. The Broncs’ Jason Thompson, the MAAC
Preseason Player of the Year, is currently third in the conference in scoring (20.5
ppg) and first in rebounding (11.6 rpg).
The one conference game this
weekend will see Marist (6-4) face Niagara (5-3) at the Gallagher Center
in Buffalo on
Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner will improve to 2-0 in the MAAC and join Siena at the top of the standings.
Meanwhile, Siena
(5-3), the preseason MAAC favorites, will host the Patriot League’s team to
beat, Holy Cross (7-1). Tip-off at the Times
Union Center
in Albany is
scheduled for 1 p.m. in a battle of two of the nation’s top mid-majors.
On the women’s side, Marist
(10-2) will travel to Albany
(1-10) for the first ever meeting between the Red Foxes and the Great Danes. Marist
will be looking to get back on track after its 10-game winning streak was
snapped by Hartford.
In other action, Niagara (3-8) will take on Oakland
(7-3) in Rochester, Michigan. Oakland’s
three losses this season have come against ranked opponents and one of their
wins was an 85-75 victory over #22 Florida
State.
