MAAC Announces 2006-07 Womenb�(TM)s Basketball All-MAAC Teams

Edison, NJ ?“ The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announces the 2006-07 Women??s Basketball All-MAAC Teams, selected by the leagues head coaches.

Selected to the All-MAAC First Team are Fairfield??s Sabra Wrice, Iona??s Martina Weber, Loyola??s Jill Glessner, Niagara??s Shaunna Ambrose and Siena??s Laura Menty. One of these five players will be named the 2006-07 MAAC Pepsi Player of the Year, also selected by the head coaches. The Player of the Year will be announced at the awards reception on Thursday, March 1 at 5:00 p.m at the Arena at Harbor Yard.

Wrice, a 5-8 junior guard from Riverside, NJ, finished third in the league in scoring averaging 15.2 points. Her best scoring effort this season was a 36 point game that was the highest scoring output in a single-game this season. Wrice ranked among the league leaders in field-goal percentage, shooting 40.4% and also was one of the leagues?? best thieves, averaging 1.69 steals. Wrice was selected Player of the Week twice this season.

After starting the season injured, Weber quickly showed why she was selected preseason player of the year once she got on the floor. In just 17 games played, this 6-5 senior forward from Bitburg, Germany averaged 15.5 points and 6.9 rebounds. Weber also connected on 53.6% of her shots. One of Weber best games of the season was a 22 point, 14 rebound performance on January 14 against Manhattan. Weber earned two Player of the Week nods this season.

Glessner, a 5-10 senior guard from Mechanicsburg, PA led the Greyhounds in scoring with 14.9 points a contest, while shooting 45.2% from the field. Glessner is featured in the top ten of seven different league statistical categories, including points, field goal percentage, assists (3.19/8th), free throw percentage (76.3%/8th), steals (1.56/10th), assists/turnover ratio (1.02/7th) and minutes played (33.56/6th). Glessner earned one Player of the Week nod during the season.

Ambrose, a 5-foot-10 senior guard from McKees Rock, Pa. led the league in scoring with 17.3 points per game. She scored 20 or more points in 11 games this season, including two thirty point games. Ambrose was also reliable from the free throw line, shooting a league leading 85.5% from the line. She would go on to average 1.75 steals and make 43 three-point field goals on the season. Ambrose was a two-time player of the week selection this season.

Siena??s Menty led the Saints in scoring with 15.4 points, while shooting 55.1% from the field. The 6-1 junior forward from Wilbraham, Mass averaged 5.7 boards per game. Menty proved to be dominate at times during season, including a 28 point, 14 rebound effort against Drexel on November 29. Menty earned two Player of the Week selections this season.

This season??s All-MAAC Second Team is made up of Fairfield??s Baendu Lowenthal, Iona??s Tiara Headen and Marist??s Meg Dahlman, Rachele Fitz and Alisa Kresge.

The All-MAAC Third Team consists of Canisius?? Megan Lyte and Abby Radunske, Iona??s Toni Horvath, Loyola??s Vika Sholoklova, Manhattan??s Caitlin Flood and Saint Peter??s Johnell Burts and Tania Kennedy.
