Morrison, Dargout, Lebedev Earn MAAC Tennis Honors

EDISON, N.J. ? Fairfield University’s Zachary Morrison (Los Angeles, CA /Loyola High School), has been selected Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Niagara University’s Shella Dargout (Rochester, N.Y./East) and Siena College’s Julia Lebedev (Island Park, N.Y./West Hempstead) share Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors.

Morrison, a senior, went 3-0 last week in singles action and 2-1 in doubles action to help Fairfield to a 2-1 mark and tie school record with 12 match victories. Morrison, who has won his last four matches at No. 3 singles, set a career-best against Loyola winning his 19th singles match of the season with a 5-7, 9-7, 6-1 victory against Marc McDaniel. Morrison also defeated Rider’s Marc Ashed 7-6(4), 6-3 and Manhattan’s Peter Czink. Morrison is 19-9 in singles play this season and 16-9 in doubles play.

Dargout, a junior, remained undefeated in the MAAC in singles with two wins this week against league foes. She extended her winning streak to eight matches, stayed undefeated in the MAAC at 7-0 and improved to 9-1 at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Siena’s Arti Iyer and a 6-1, 6-4 win over Marist’s Alexa Strange. In doubles, Dargout and partner Vanja Lakic beat Siena’s Taylor Barvoets and Iyer, 8-3, but lost 8-4 to Marist’s Erin Godly and Strange at No. 2 doubles.

Lebedev, completed her senior season undefeated in MAAC play at #4 singles. She posted three league victories this past week, defeating Marist’s Megan Gureck (7-5 and 6-1), Niagara’s Molly Matthews (4-6, 6-4 and 6-4) and Manhattan’s Morgan MacTaggart (6-0 and 6-2). Lebedev also won a doubles match in the team’s match at regular season champion Marist.
