Julie Byron Resigns as Assistant Commissioner for Women's Basketball

Edison, NJ - Julie Byron has resigned as Assistant Commissioner for Women's Basketball, effective June 30.

Byron, her husband, Sean, and their daughter, Grace, will be moving to Columbus, Ohio, as Sean will be joining the men' volleyball coaching staff at The Ohio State University.

Byron was promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Women's Basketball for the MAAC in July 2005. In her role, she was responsible for crafting the conference's women's basketball schedule, coordinating the MAAC Women's Basketball television package, supervising the coordinator of women's basketball officials and assisting with the administration of the MAAC Men's & Women's Basketball Championships. This past winter, Byron served as tournament manager for the Inaugural Old Spice Classic held at Disney's Wide World of Sports?.

Throughout the past five years, Byron has had a plethora of NCAA Championship experience. In 2002, she was the tournament manager for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Albany, N.Y. In 2003, she served as an assistant tournament manager for the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball East Regional in Albany, N.Y. and the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Frozen Four in Buffalo, N.Y. Most recently, Byron was the tournament manager for the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship First & Second Rounds held in Trenton, N.J.

Prior to her responsibilities with women's basketball, Byron was the MAAC's Director of Special Events from 2001-2004. She joined the MAAC Properties staff in February 2000 after starting her athletic administration career as an administrative fellow for compliance with the MAAC.

Byron earned her undergraduate degree from Hartwick College in 1996, and received her Master of Education degree from Springfield College in 1999. While at Hartwick, Byron was a four-year starter for the women??s basketball program. She was the EAA Player of the Year in 1996 and also garnered Honorable Mention All American Honors that season. Byron will be inducted into the Hartwick Hall of Fame in June 2007.

Byron is a member of NACWAA and is currently the president of the Collegiate Athletic Administrators of New Jersey (CAANJ).
