Iona Sweeps Final Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Honors

Edison, NJ ? Iona’s Andrew Ledwith and McKayla Plank have been selected Outdoor Track & Performers of the Week.
Sophomore Ledwith earned his second NCAA East regional qualifying time of the season with a ninth place finish in the 5,000-meter championship at the 2007 Penn Relays at Franklin Field. Ledwith ran a time of 14:05.74 in the event finishing a little less than a second behind Slippery Rock's Jeff Weiss. It was a personal best on the outdoor track by nearly 13 seconds set last season in the 2006 Penn Relays.
Redshirt freshman Plank ran a 4:20.0 in the third leg of the Championship of America 4 x 1,500-meter relay leading the Gaels to a seventh place finish in the prestigious event. It marked the first time in the program's history that the team competed in a Championship of America event. Iona finished behind some of the top program’s in the country including Michigan, Brigham Young, Georgetown, Villanova, Duke and Penn State. Iona defeated Tennessee, Penn, Virginia Boston College and William and Mary to round out the Top 12 in the event.
