Marist Earns Spot in Title Game of the 2007 MAAC Softball Championship

Stratford, Conn. - Fourth-seeded Marist College (20-29) earned a spot in the 2007 MAAC Softball Championship title game after defeating second-seeded Saint Peter's College (22-23), 3-0, in Game 6 of the tournament at DeLuca Field.

Marist scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, with Melissa Giordano scoring on a single up the middle by Jessica Green.

The Red Foxes jumped onto the scoreboard again in the bottom of the fifth as Christine Jakobsen scored on a wild pitch by Amber Phillips. Green then plated home on a single down the left field line by Jessica Hulsey to give the Red Foxes the final score, 3-0.

Marist's Caitlin Carpentier improved to 8-11 with the win, while Saint Peter's Amber Phillips finished the year at 8-12 on the mound.

Marist will play top-seeded Canisius College in Game 6 on Saturday, May 12, at 12:00 p.m. If the Red Foxes win Game 6, the seventh and deciding game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
