Marist Eliminates Niagara with 5-1 Win in Game Four of the 2007 MAAC Softball Championship

Stratford, Conn. ? Fourth-seeded Marist College (19-29) took a 5-1 victory over third-seeded Niagara University (18-20) in game four of the 2007 MAAC Softball Championship at DeLuca Field.

The Red Foxes got on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning, with Pamela de la Llave knocking a two-run single to right field to bring in Jessica Hulsey and Mary Beth Pomes.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the lead was cut to 2-1 when Niagara’s Jenna Baker registered a RBI single to right field to bring home her older sister, Lisa.

Marist continued its offensive effort in the top of the fifth as Christine Jakobsen doubled to center field to allow Lindsey Kinel, Pomes and de la Llave to give the Red Foxes a 5-1 lead.

Marist’s Megan Rigos improved to 12-12 on the mound with the complete-game win, while Niagara’s Tiffany McCrory ended the season at 8-6.

Marist will play Saint Peter’s College in Game 5 at approximately 4:00 p.m. today.
