Race Times Set for 2007 MAAC Cross Country Championships

Edison, N.J. - The 2007 MAAC Cross Country Championships will be held on Friday, October 26, at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. This year's event marks the 24th year the MAAC has hosted the championships at the park. The women's 6K race will start at 1:00 p.m. followed by the men's 8K race at 1:45 p.m.

The Iona College women's team, currently ranked No. 8 in the Northeast Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, is looking to claim their third consecutive championship in 2007. Last season, seven Gaels placed in the top ten to help win the title with 17 points, with Marist College finishing in second place with 87 points. Iona's Salome Kosegi finished first with a time of 21:50.8.
On the men's side, the No. 3 ranked Iona College men's cross country team looks to claim their 17th consecutive (21st overall) MAAC Cross Country Championship. During last year's championship race, six of their runners placed in the top ten, claiming a total of 17 points. Three runners from Marist College placed in the top ten, leading the Red Foxes to a second place finish. Iona's Abraham Ng'etich won last season's race with a time of 25:12.0."
