Fitz, McLean, and Riddick Named MAAC Players of the Week

RACHELE FITZ, MARIST
Sophomore,
Forward, 6-0, Seven Hills, OH/Trinity
Fitz led Marist in scoring in a pair of 61-59 wins
over Loyola and Manhattan
this weekend. On Friday at Loyola, the sophomore scored 21 points on 7-of-16
shooting from the field with seven rebounds. Fitz also went 7-for-8 from the
free throw line, making two free throws with 3.7 seconds left to give Marist
the win. Fitz followed her effort in Baltimore
with 24 points at Manhattan
on Sunday. She was 8-of-13 from the field against the Lady Jaspers and 8-of-9
from the charity stripe. For the week,
Fitz averaged 22.5 points and six rebounds a game. She shot 51.7% from the
field and 88.2% from the free throw line.
ANNA MCLEAN, IONA
Junior, Center,
6-2, Freeport,
N.Y./Freeport
McLean tallied her fifth and sixth double-doubles of the
season, and has now achieved the feat four consecutive times. In another great
week, McLean averaged 16 points and 15.5
rebounds per game. She led the Gaels in an 83-72 victory over Niagara,
posting 21 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and three steals. McLean followed that performance with a career-high 20
boards at Canisius which included 13 off the offensive glass.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
CHARLENE RIDDICK, SAINT PETER'S
Freshman, Forward,
6-1, Waterbury, CT/Waterbury
Riddick led the Peahens to a
2-0 record against Rider and Siena
this week. Riddick averaged 14.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks with
back-to-back double-doubles. She recorded her first career double-double with a
career high 18 points and career high 14 rebounds going a perfect 10-10 at the
charity stripe against Rider. In Sunday’s game against Siena, she recorded her second double-double
with 10 points and 10 boards with four block shots including a crucial one with
22 seconds remaining in a two point game.
