Rider's Smith and Manhattan's Marmbrandt Win Indoor Track Weekly Awards

Edison, NJ ? Rider’s John Smith was selected as the MAAC Indoor Track Men’s Performer of the Week, while Manhattan’s Malin Marmbrandt was named the Women’s Performer of the Week.

Smith, a senior distance runner from Cliffwood Beach, N.J, won the 3,000 meter race at the Great Dane Classic, hosted by the University of Albany at the New York City Armory. Smith’s finished in 8:32.21, which is currently the fastest 3,000 meter time in the MAAC this season.

Marmbrandt, a sophomore, took first place at the Princeton Relays in the women’s long jump with a Met-qualifying mark of 5.62 meters. She also took second in the triple jump with a Met and ECAC-qualifying mark of 11.96 meters. Marmbrandt is the defending MAAC outdoor long jump champion and placed second last year at both the MAAC indoor and outdoor championships in the triple jump.

The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track Championships will be held on Friday, February 22nd at The Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.
