Ledwith, Segni and Desaedeleer Win Weekly Honors

Edison, NJ ? Iona’s Andrew Ledwith and Marist’s Girma Segni were named the MAAC Men’s Cross Country Co-Runners of the Week, while Iona’s Annelore Desaedeleer was selected as the Women’s Runner of the Week.

Ledwith, a senior from Athboy, Ireland, led the Gaels to a second place finish in the White Race of the 2008 Pre-National Invitational at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, IN this Saturday. The 7th ranked Iona team finished second out of the 40 teams in the race. Individually, Ledwith was ninth with a time of 23:41.1 in the 8k race. There were 267 competitors in the event.

Segni, a senior from Bronx, NY,  was the overall winner of the UAlbany Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, running past a field of 186 runners. The senior ran a course record 24:35.2 over the 8K course at the University at Albany, leading Marist to the team title. Marist compiled 23 points, beating Brandeis by 68 points.

Desaedeleer, a graduate from Dworp, Belgium, finished fifth overall in the Open Race at the 2008 Pre-National Invitational at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, IN this Saturday. Desaedeleer was one of two Gaels competing in the non-team scored event finishing fifth out of 144 competitors. She ran a time of 21:42.1 in the 6k race.

The 2008 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will be held on November 1st at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
