MAAC Co-Offensive Players of the Week

 

BURGANDY McCURTY

MH, Jr., 5-9, Port Washington, NY/Schreiber

 

McCurty posted three straight double-doubles in road matches this past week, helping the Saints run their MAAC record to 8-2 on the season.  On the week, she averaged 4.7 kills and 3.1 digs per set.  In the Saints four-set win over Iona, McCurty had 18 kills, 14 digs and three blocks.  She finished the week with 28 kills and 11 digs in the team’s five set win at Manhattan.  In just three sets against cross-town foe UAlbany, McCurty had 10 kills and 12 digs.  McCurty posted a .339 hitting percentage on the week and was a part of seven blocks.  

MICHELLE GODFREY, CANISIUS

MH, Jr., 6-3, North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda

 

Godfrey led the Canisius offense with the best offensive week of her career, highlighted by an attack percentage of .568. The 6-foot-3 middle hitter had 26 kills and just one error on 44 attack attempts to average 3.25 kills per set. Godfrey recorded a career-high 16 kills in the 3-1 victory over Rider. Godfrey also continued to lead the Canisius’ front line with nine total blocks, averaging 1.12 blocks per set in the two matches.

 

MAAC Defensive Player of the Week

 

ALLISON NIETERS, IONA

L, So., 5-9, St. Charles, MO/Lutheran

 

Nieters had another stellar week defensively for the Gaels recording 54 digs (6.75/set) in the Gaels split with Siena and Fairfield. Nieters followed up a 24-dig effort versus the Saints with 30 in a win over the Stags. It was the sixth-time this season she reached the 30-dig plateau. According to avca.org, it is the second-highest total in Division I volleyball this season.  She stands just 42 digs away from the school record set in 2002.

 

MAAC Rookie of the Week

 

JANELLE DAVIS, CANISIUS

S, Fr., 5-9, Allentown, PA/William Allen

 

Davis averaged 9.88 assists, 2.50 digs and 0.75 blocks per set in the Golden Griffins’ two victories last weekend. In the 3-1 victory over Rider on Sunday, Davis had her sixth double-double of the season with 40 assists and 12 digs. The 5-foot-9 setter also had four kills on eight attempts against the Broncs, while posting three aces in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Loyola.
