2008 Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships Tomorrow Morning

Lake Buena Vista, FL - The 2008 MAAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, November 1 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The men's 8k race will begin at 8:00 a.m. followed by the women's 6k race at 8:45 a.m.
On the men's side, the Iona College Gaels, ranked seventh in the country, will be running for their 18th consecutive conference title and 22nd overall. Iona is the only current member of the MAAC to have won the championship. Former members La Salle and Army are the only other schools to have won the team title. The Gaels return five of their top seven runners from last year's MAAC Championship, including individual champion Mohammed Khadraoui. Former Iona runner Vinny Mulvey holds the MAAC Championship record at 23:42.30, which he ran in 2000 on the Disney course.
For the women, Iona will be aiming for its fourth straight (fifth overall) league crown. However, the Gaels have never won the MAAC Championship on the Disney course as Marist claimed the title in both 2000 and 2004. Iona senior Ashling Baker, third overall a year ago, and first year Gael Annelore Desaedeleer, a graduate student from Dworp, Belgium, figure to lead the way.
