Fairfield, Conn. ? The Fairfield University women’s soccer team, making its fifth-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, will take on the number four seed in the region, Oklahoma State University, at Rutgers University.  The game will be played on Friday, November 14, at 5:00 p.m.  Rutgers and Penn State will meet in the other game on Friday at 7:30 p.m., with the winners advancing to the second round game, to be played on Sunday, November 16.

Fairfield enters the NCAA Tournament with a 15-4-3 overall record and as champions of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).  The Stags, behind tournament MVP and MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Ahna Johnson (Hamden, Conn.), defeated the league’s top-seed, Loyola College, 3-0 on Sunday, to earn the automatic bid.

Oklahoma State enters the tournament with a 17-1-3 record and are the Big XII regular season champions.  They lead the nation in scoring offense, averaging 3.48 goals per game.  The Cowgirls fell in penalty kicks to Colorado in the Big XII semifinals.

The Stags boast one of the top defensive units in the nation, ranking 15th in the nation in goals-against average (.605), thanks in large part to seniors Robyn Decker (Chester, Conn.) and Caroline Downey (Springfield, Mass.).  The Stags also have one of the top goalkeepers in the nation in Kelly Boudreau (Farmington, Conn.), who has posted nine shutouts this season and is 10th in the nation with a GAA of .875.

Johnson leads a high-powered Fairfield offense of its own, with her 34 points, 15 goals and seven game-winning tallies, and ranks 25th nationally in goals-per game.  Adrienne Boyer (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) is the Stags' leader in assists, with 10, ranking 45th in assists-per game in the nation.
