Rider Trio, Marist's Bolstad Win Weekly Awards

Edison, NJ ? Swimmer of the Week honors were swept by Rider University, with Drew Modrov taking the award on the men’s side while his sister, Priscilla Modrov, earned the women’s distinction. Marist College’s Brian Bolstad was named the Men’s Diver of the Week, while Amanda Burke of Rider won the women’s award for the third consecutive week.
Modrov, a sophomore from Smithtown, New York, won three events in the Rider men’s swimming win over Lehigh University. He won the 50 freestyle in 21.31, breaking an 18-year-old pool record previously set by Rider Hall of Famer Jack Schwerzler. Modrov also won the 100 freestyle (46.78) and 200 freestyle (1:44.38).
Modrov, a senior, led the Rider women in a victory over Lehigh. She won the 200 butterfly with a pool and Rider record time of 2:02.55 and also set a pool record in the 200 IM (2:06.42). She also swam a leg of the pool record setting 400 free relay (3:37.53) and the pool record setting 400 medley relay (3:55.38).
Bolstad, a sophomore out of Highland, New York, set a school record off the three-meter board and qualified for the NCAA Zone Qualifier Diving Championships on his way to a double-win in a dual meet against Fairfield. His record-setting score off the three-meter was 335.33, breaking the record set by Devon O’Nalty last season. In the one-meter competition, Bolstad took first place with a score of 282.00. This is the second time this season Bolstad has taken Diver of the Week honors.
Burke has now won three consecutive Diver of the Week awards. The native of Churchville, Pennsylvania won the one-meter (254.24) and three-meter (277.20) board events against Lehigh. She overcame her nearest competition by nearly 60 points in the one-meter event, and almost 90 points in the three-meter.
The 2009 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships will be held February 12-14 at Loyola College in Baltimore, MD.
