2008 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship Begins on Friday

Edison, N.J. ? The 2008 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship will be held this weekend at Tenney Stadium on the campus of Marist College.

 

The semifinals begin on Friday, November 14 as top-seeded Loyola College (17-0-1, 9-0 MAAC) will take on fourth-seeded Niagara University (11-5-3, 5-3-1 MAAC) in the first game at 4:00 p.m. Second-seeded Siena College (9-7-1, 7-2 MAAC) will then take on third-seeded Fairfield University (9-7, 6-3 MAAC) at 7:00 p.m.

 

On Sunday, November 16, the men’s championship game will take place at 12:00 p.m., and will air live on ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network. The winner of the 2008 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship will earn the league’s automatic berth into the 2008 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship. 

 

Last year, Loyola defeated Saint Peter’s College, 1-0, to capture its 11th MAAC Championship title.  The Greyhounds defeated Canisius College, 3-0, in the semifinals, while the Peacocks earned a 2-1 victory over Fairfield.  Loyola goalkeeper Milos Kocic was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship.
