MAAC Women's Basketball Gets Started This Weekend

Edison, NJ ? The 2008-09 MAAC Women’s Basketball season will tip-off on Friday, November 14th with seven non-conference matchups.

Fairfield, picked second in the MAAC Preseason Poll, will open its campaign at the UNC-Asheville Tournament against the host institution at 4:30 p.m. Iona begins its quest for a third straight postseason appearance as they host Hofstra at the Hynes Athletic Center. Niagara faces a stern test in its opener as they travel to East Lansing to take on the Spartans of Michigan State. Two MAAC schools will face nearby Big East foes, as Rider makes the short trip to northern New Jersey to play Seton Hall, while Siena plays host to the Syracuse Orange. The Manhattan Lady Jaspers get things started with a cross-town trip to take on St. Francis (NY), while Canisius and head coach Terry Zeh host local rivals Buffalo.

The three teams not in action on Friday all get underway this weekend. Saint Peter’s opens its slate at home against Monmouth on Saturday evening, while Loyola will face Harvard in the University of South Florida Shootout. Three-time defending champions Marist will be the last MAAC team to begin the 2008-09 season when they entertain Albany at the McCann Center in Poughkeepsie on Sunday afternoon.
