Viani scored a career-high 26 points in Marist’s
season-opening win over the University of Albany at the McCann Center. The
senior guard went 10-for-13 (.769) from
the field and made 5-of-7 three-pointers (.714). She also led the Red Foxes
with five assists and registered one steal in 30 minutes of action. Viani was
selected to the 2008-09 Preseason All-MAAC First Team.

KRISTINA FORD, IONA
Freshman, Forward,

Ford posted 13 points and ten rebounds in the season opening
win over Hofstra to earn a double-double in her debut performance for Iona. She
proved her all-around ability by adding two assists, two blocks, and three
steals in her first game while connecting on five of eight from the free throw
line. She followed that up with a game-high 20 points in a 52-44 victory at
West Virginia, helping the Gaels to become just the second team to defeat the
Mountaineers in 39 non-conference games at the WVU Coliseum under the current
head coach. The freshman forward also led Iona to its second win over a BIG
EAST opponent since 1984-85. Ford averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5
steals, and 2.5 blocks in her first week of collegiate basketball.
