2008 NCAA College Cup: Fairfield Travels to UConn, Loyola Garners No. 9 Seed

Edison, N.J. ? The Fairfield University men’s soccer team, the 2008 MAAC Champions, will face the University of Connecticut in the first round of the 50th Annual Division I Men’s Soccer Championship. Loyola College earned the No. 9 seed in the NCAA College Cup and will face the winner of Duke/UNC Greensboro in the second round at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field.
The Stags (11-7) earned the league’s automatic bid after defeating the Greyhounds, 1-0, in the MAAC Championship game. They will travel to Storrs, Conn. to take on the Huskies (9-4-6) on Friday, November 21. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. The winner of the first-round matchup will face No. 10 University of Virginia (11-8-1) in the second round in Charlottesville, Va. Fairfield recorded its first NCAA win in 2006 with a 2-1 victory at Connecticut.
The Greyhounds (18-1-1) will host the winner of Saturday’s matchup between Duke University and UNC Greensboro on Tuesday, November 25 at 6:00 p.m. Loyola earned one of the 16 seeds in the 48-team field. They will be making its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship. In 2007, the Greyhounds beat Liberty University at home in the first round, 2-0, before falling in the second round to the University of Maryland on penalty kicks at College Park. This will mark the 15th NCAA Championship appearance for the Greyhounds in school history, eighth at the Division-I level.
