Khadraoui, Santos Earn Men's Cross Country Northeast Region Honors

Edison, NJ - Iona College head coach Ricardo Santos was named the NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Northeast Region Coach of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Gaels' senior Mohamed Khadraoui earned Northeast Region Athlete of the Year honors.
In his first season at the Iona helm, Santos picked up where his predecessor, Mick Byrne, left off. The seventh-ranked Gaels won their 18th straight MAAC title before claiming their fourth consecutive Northeast Region championship a week ago. Iona finished second at last year's NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Championship.
Khadraoui will be making his fourth appearance at the NCAA Cross Country Championships after leading the Gaels to their fourth straight regional title with his individual victory at Van Cortlandt Park. The three-time All-American also claimed his second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship this season at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. Khadraoui is from Paterson, N.J.
The 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Championship will be held on Monday, November 24 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
