MAAC Announces 2008-09 Basketball Television Schedule

Edison, NJ ? The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and its basketball programs will provide its fans with all of the exciting, fast paced action of MAAC Basketball right in their very own homes.

The MAAC will be televising eight men’s basketball games on ESPNU, a multi-media college sports initiative including a new 24-hour television network that launched March 4, 2005.

Additionally, ESPN2 will air a single regular season MAAC game with Niagara University at Fairfield University on Saturday, February 14, 2009. The 2009 Citizens Bank MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship title game will also be carried live on ESPN2 on Monday, March 9 at 9:00 p.m.

The MSG Network will once again be the primary carrier for the Pepsi MAAC Basketball Game of the Week. MSG will carry six regular season men’s games as well as the men’s quarterfinal and semifinal games of the 2009 Citizens Bank MAAC Basketball Championship at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y.

The MAAC will also televise three regular season women’s basketball contests on ESPNU and two regular season women’s basketball games on the MSG Network. MSG will also televise the women’s semifinals and championship game of the 2009 Citizens Bank MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship.

The schedule starts off on Friday, January 9, as Siena College hosts Rider University for the first men’s and women’s basketball television doubleheader. The women’s teams will face off in the first game at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men’s programs for the Broncs and the Saints at 7:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcasted on ESPNU.

ESPNU will broadcast two more men’s and women’s basketball doubleheaders this season. On Friday, January 23, Marist College hosts a twin bill, featuring the Red Foxes’ women’s program versus the Fairfield Stags at 4:30 p.m., and the men’s team against Canisius College at 7:00 p.m.

Loyola College’s Reitz Arena is the locale for the final ESPNU doubleheader on Friday, February 13. The Loyola women will take on Niagara at 5:00 p.m., while the men’s team will face Iona College at 7:00 p.m.

The Pepsi MAAC Television Network will also host a pair of men’s and women’s basketball doubleheaders. On Monday, February 9, Manhattan College will host Iona for a true twin bill, as the women’s programs play at 6:00 p.m., followed by the men’s teams at 8:00 p.m.

The Yanitelli Center, home of Saint Peter’s College, will be the site of the Pepsi MAAC Television Network doubleheader on Monday, February 16. The Peahens will play Canisius at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Peacocks against Marist at 8:00 p.m.

Furthermore, MAAC teams will be in television action all season long during non-conference play. Highlighting the long list of those matchups is the opening round of the Old Spice Classic, as Siena takes on the University of Tennessee for a 12:00 p.m. game live on ESPN2. The Saints will make another appearance on ESPN2 when they travel to the University of Pittsburgh on December 17. Loyola will also be featured on ESPN2 when they take on the Blue Devils of Duke University on New Year’s Eve and the Marist women will face fellow mid-major power Hartford on ESPN2 in February. Several other local, regional and/or national games are currently being finalized for both conference and non-conference games.
