New Rochelle, NY - Iona College men's cross country / track and field standout Andrew Ledwith has been nominated for European-Athletics.org's European Athlete of the Month.
European
Athletics names a male and female winner each month and features the
athlete on its website. Selections are based on votes by the public,
the media and a panel of European Athletics experts with each counting
for 33.3% of the final vote.
Ledwith
has been nominated as the lone European to earn a medal at the 2008
NCAA Cross Country Championship. His third place finish led Iona to a
second straight second place finish at the national championship event.
Ledwith's competition includes Spain's Alemayehu Bezabeh who won an
International Cross Country Meeting in Atapuerca, Portugal's S?rgio
Silva, the leading European at IAAF Cross Country Meeting in Amora in
second place. Norway's ?ystein Sylta, the first Norwegian to win Nordic
Cross Country title, Portugal's Rui Pedro Silva, the leading European
finisher at IAAF Cross Permit Meeting in Oeiras and Italy's Giorgio
Calcaterra, who Won World Cup 100km in 6:37:41 in Tarquinia, Italy.
He
is currently in training to compete at the SPAR European Cross Country
Championship, representing his native Ireland this Sunday (Dec. 14) in
Brussels, Belgium.
