Lipus, Kajunski Win Indoor Track Weekly Awards

Edison, N.J. ? Iona College’s Daniel Lipus was selected as the MAAC Indoor Track Men’s Performer of the Week, while Rider University’s Kelly Kajunski was named the Women’s Performer of the Week.

 

Lipus, a freshman from Remscheid, Germany, turned in a first place performance in the 1,000-meter run and finished a close second in the mile at the six-team Fordham Season Opener at Rose Hill Gymnasium.  His performance in the 800-meter race was nearly three seconds faster than the second place finisher from Fordham, and his time of 1:57.6 was the lone time under two minutes in the event.  He came in a mere tenth of a second behind Providence's Nick Berluti with a time of 4:22.8 in the mile.

 

A senior from Glenmore, Pa., Kajunski won the high jump with a height of 1.63m at Princeton’s New Year Invite against Monmouth, Rutgers, Penn, TCNJ, West Chester and the host Tigers. Kajunski was named the MAAC Most Outstanding Performer at the conclusion of the 2008 season.

 

The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track Championships will be held on Friday, February 20th at The Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.
