Rider Men and Marist Women Take Early Lead in Day One of the 2008 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships

Baltimore, Md. ? The Rider University men’s and the Marist College women’s swimming and diving teams lead all schools after the first day of competition in the 2008 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Mangione Aquatic Center at Loyola College.

 

The Rider men lead after scoring 210 points earlier today, while second-place Marist registered 183.50 points. Loyola College is in third with 167 points, followed by Saint Peter’s College (89), Niagara University (84), Iona College (66.50), Fairfield University (61) and Canisius College (30).

 

On the women’s side, Marist has tallied 223 points, 16.5 points ahead of second-place Rider (206.50). Loyola is in third with 196 points, followed by Iona (103), Fairfield (100), Niagara (91), Siena College (82.50), Manhattan College (48), Canisius (42) and Saint Peter’s (36).

 

Three MAAC records were broken during this evening’s session. Loyola’s Megan Royer won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.12, while the Greyhounds’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Royer, Emily Benton, Caitlin Cassidy and Victoria Kamauff completed the event in a time of 1:36.74. Rider’s Amanda Burke claimed the top spot in the women’s 1 Meter Diving with a score of 294.40.
